Dr. April Mitchell grew up on a horse farm in Monroe, Georgia. She graduated from Monroe Area High School with a scholarship to Mercer University. At Mercer, Dr. Mitchell graduated with a major in biology and minor in chemistry. White in college, she spent a summer in Kenya studying wildlife management. Dr. Mitchell then worked for the College of Veterinary Medicine as a large animal intern for 1 year before going to work in Alpharetta for Dr. Horner and Nash at their equine practice.
Dr. Mitchell returned to Monroe in 2002 and joined the Monroe Veterinary Clinic practice. Dr. Bragg, who started the Monroe Veterinary Clinic in 1949, was her childhood hero and decided at the age of 3 that she was going to be a Veterinarian. Dr. Mitchell purchased the Monroe Veterinary Clinic from Dr. Wall and Dr. Gross in 2011. Dr. Mitchell feels honored to have been able to fulfill her lifelong dream of working and owning the Monroe Veterinary Clinic that treated her beloved pets - both large and small while growing up in Monroe.
Dr. Mitchell currently lives in Monroe with her husband, her son and her precious dogs, cats and horses. Dr. Mitchell enjoys horseback riding, hiking and most of all spending time with her human and pet family. She also knows how fortunate she is to have a profession where she gets to help and love dogs and cats every day.
